Rat Rats are known to carry diseases such as salmonella and Weil’s disease, which is potentially fatal to humans and can contaminate foodstuffs and goods. Rats are capable of squeezing through spaces that appear to be much too small for them. They have oversized front teeth for gnawing, which are adapted for chewing. Rats chew on anything available to them and cause great damage.
Mice Mice carry and transmit viruses, bacteria and other diseases. The first indication that most people report is hearing scrabbling or scratching noises coming from the attic, walls or under the flooring. Other signs of mice would be finding their droppings or finding the damage they do by their constant gnawing.
Cockroach Cockroaches are mostly active at night. If they are seen during the day, it is usually because their hiding places are overcrowded due to a large population or there is a shortage of food and water supply. They pose a health risk due to their habit of roaming through sewers, urinals, garbage and rubbish. They consume food and faeces of both people and animals and carry diseases such as Salmonella, Diarrhea.
Bedbug The most common way people discover they have bedbugs is when they wake up with bites. Sometime people detect other evidence like bedbugs feces, which look like tiny black specks, or blood stains from a bug that has just had a full meal. Bedbugs are normally active just before dawn. They are attracted by warmth and the presence of carbon dioxide. The bug injects its saliva, which contains anticoagulants and anesthetics, and then withdraws the blood of its host.
Wasp Adult wasps feed on nectar and sweet fruit. They collect insects including caterpillars to feed to their larvae. The wasps nest can be found in the ground, attics, sheds, air vents, etc. The nest will range in size from a golf ball to a football, depending on the time of year. Most people who have wasps nest never see the nest, they only see the wasps flying in and out of a hole or opening. The wasps enter and exit with great accuracy.
Flea Fleas do not have wings, although they are capable of jumping long distances. Fleas nest where the host is in its usual resting place, for example the cat/dog basket, your bed. Fleas most often bite people around the legs and ankles.
Moth Common clothes moths will infest things like jumpers, coats, upholstery, blankets and any other woolen products. Most people find a patch of carpet damaged under a sofa, table, etc. It is the larvae stage that damage fabrics, they are small cream-colored caterpillars with brown head capsules,.
Ant Black ants are social creatures, living like other ants in colonies of queens, males, larvae and infertile female workers. Black ant nests are common in dry areas and sandy soil. They will enter areas like kitchens, and food preparation areas, whilst foraging, and where sweet substances are found they will soon be present in numbers. In July and August, winged males and females emerge for mating flights. They are about twice the size of the workers.
